I believe that everyone you meet changes you in some way.
But when we freeze in rigidity,
Become cold and stubborn,
We subconsciously allow others, and sometimes,
To leave marks on our souls.
Some will scratch, perhaps scar,
Others will chip away at who you are.
And there may be those that make dents so deep
It changes you fundamentally –
And if you have the strength,
You can try, to prevent every fibre of your being
From shattering, and falling completely apart.
But when we acknowledge and embrace
The inevitable change,
From inevitable pain;
Yet still remain open
To the warmth, and love
Of gentle hands and kind hearts,
We can allow ourselves to mould and be moulded,
To be shaped by those who inspire us to be better,
Who can help us grow
Rather than diminish who we are.
And as long as we open our eyes, and our mind,
Just a little wider, see a little clearer,
We will realize those pieces of us are not far gone.
And when we find them,
Truly absorb and internalize the lessons learned.
The edges will slowly soften
Until the hardness is gone.
And all we have to leave in our paths
Are beautiful, radiating particles –
A gift to those who may be looking
For their own
